Author Name Jenelyn O. Pacamara Abstract STEM education in the United States faces a critical challenge: a persistent shortage of qualified science and physics teachers, especially in high-need K–12 schools. This shortage disproportionately affects underserved communities, where students often lack access to rigorous STEM coursework. This paper proposes a forward-looking plan to develop and scale teacher training programs in physics and general science to expand equitable access to quality STEM education. Grounded in current research and the author’s practical experience as a science educator and curriculum developer, the proposal outlines evidence-based strategies to recruit, prepare, and support teachers for disadvantaged school districts. The initiative seeks to improve long-term student achievement in STEM and address equity gaps by strengthening teacher content knowledge and pedagogical skills through intensive professional development. The anticipated outcome is a sustainable model for empowering educators that will ultimately broaden participation in STEM fields among underrepresented populations Published On : 2025-04-30 Article Download : ![]() |
