English Proficiency Level of Teacher Applicant of Department of Education Division Schools of Nueva Ecija

Abstract

Excellent English proficiency is required for effective communication in the second language. Teachers are expected to be proficient in English and have a considerable English proficiency standard. This study aimed to determine the English proficiency level of teacher-applicants in the Department of Education, Nueva Ecija Division (DEPED-Nueva Ecija). The descriptive method of research was utilized on the results of the English proficiency test. Findings revealed that most of the applicants for teaching positions have very satisfactory percentage scores in structure. Regarding reading comprehension, the majority's percentage scores are satisfactory, while in written expressions, the majority's percentage scores got a" needs improvement" mark. The overall performance of the respondents in the English proficiency test is satisfactory. Based on the study's findings, it was recommended that college students, specifically education students, undergo comprehensive training in the English language in all areas. Also, the Department of Education may consider the results of the English proficiency tests as a basis for Teachers Development Programs in English that will further hone the competencies of teachers at all levels in both public and private schools.
