Abstract

This study examines consumer awareness towards millets among college students in Coimbatore city. In today's health-conscious environment, millets have re-emerged as a vital component of a balanced and nutritious diet due to their high nutritional value and climate resilience. The research focuses on understanding the level of awareness, sources of information, and factors affecting millet consumption and acceptance among students. Primary data were collected from 100 respondents using a structured questionnaire. Statistical tools such as percentage analysis, weighted average method, and chi-square tests were used for analysis. The findings reveal that while a majority of students (84%) have heard about millets, overall consumption remains moderate. Availability, taste preferences, and lack of recipes are identified as key barriers. The study concludes with suggestions to improve consumer awareness and strengthen millet adoption among the younger generation.
