Liquorice, scientifically known as Glycyrrhiza glabra, is a plant native to southern Europe and parts of Asia. Its roots have been used for thousands of years for their medicinal properties and distinctive sweet flavor. The word “liquorice” is derived from the Greek words glykys (meaning sweet) and rhiza (meaning root), highlighting its naturally sweet-tasting root. While it is commonly used in candies and flavorings, liquorice also plays a significant role in herbal medicine, skincare, and even in traditional remedies.
