Abstract

This paper examines Zorami: A Redemption Song by Malsawmi Jacob* through the lens of generational change and cultural transition within Mizo society. The study argues that the novel reflects the tension between inherited traditions upheld by the older generation and the evolving perspectives of younger individuals responding to social transformation. By portraying differing attitudes toward community values, moral expectations, and personal identity, the narrative illustrates how cultural continuity is both challenged and reinterpreted across generations. The analysis focuses on the ways in which elders represent stability and preservation of established customs, while younger characters embody emerging aspirations and changing social outlooks. Through these contrasting perspectives, the novel reveals the dynamic process through which societies negotiate tradition and change. Ultimately, the paper suggests that Zorami portrays cultural identity not as a fixed inheritance but as a continually evolving construct shaped by generational dialogue and social adaptation.
