The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Developing English Communication Skills

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming the field of education by introducing intelligent, interactive, and personalized approaches to language learning. In English language education, AI-based technologies provide learners with opportunities to practice communication, receive immediate feedback, improve pronunciation, develop vocabulary, and enhance writing and grammatical accuracy. AI-powered conversational systems, speech-recognition applications, intelligent tutoring systems, automated writing assistants, and adaptive learning platforms can create learner-centered environments that extend language practice beyond the traditional classroom. This paper examines the role of Artificial Intelligence in developing English communication skills, with particular emphasis on listening, speaking, reading, writing, vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, and interactive communication. It also discusses the benefits and challenges of AI-supported language learning and the changing role of English language teachers. The study highlights that AI can provide personalized and continuous opportunities for language practice, but human guidance remains essential for developing contextual understanding, creativity, critical thinking, intercultural competence, and authentic communication. The paper concludes that a balanced integration of AI and human-centered pedagogy can significantly contribute to effective English communication development.
